If you’re here, you are probably looking to transform your business or get better at it. Great! You’re in the right place, but you are also probably confused about this term Business Transformation versus Digital Transformation. So, we’re going to clear that up, like the way we start any transformation with our own clients, we like to agree the terms so we’re all on the same page.  So, that said, everything you read on this page (and website, and our training) is about one thing – Business Transformation. There is intentional confusion in the marketplace today, mainly created by those that benefit from it, about what is Business Transformation, and therefore, what is Digital Transformation (we wrote a full article addressing this confusion here)? So, to be clear:

“Business Transformation is where you transform the Business, often by changing its business, or operating model – meaning the people, process, and today’s world it may also be through the use ‘digital’ technologies to support the people and processes”.

To be explicitly clear when the marketplace use the term Digital Transformation to describe ‘what transformation the Business is going through’, and using ‘digital technologies’ as one of the tools to do it – it is not ‘technology’ that is transforming, it is the Business that is transforming by using ‘digital technologies’.

If you are only changing technologies and making them ‘digital’ (what are they before they are digital?), and not touching the people or processes that technology is there to support in the first place, then you have to ask yourself, “are you doing a ‘transformation’, or just ‘a new system implementation’?”, in which case – that is not really a transformation at all. Most importantly, you not only wouldn’t have solved the problems the transformation set out to solve, you in fact would have made them worse, as you now would have wasted time, money and missed opportunities building new ‘tech’ that looked great, but not fit-for-purpose because it didn’t support the people and processes that use it – hence the ‘70% failure rate in transformation efforts and projects that implement digital technologies’!  

So from now on, when you see the term or word(s) ‘business transformation’, you know that this is how it is defined here, and how it is incorrectly used in the marketplace today.

What’s the first thing you do – Map your Vision

What will the future design of the organisation look like – Target Operating Model (TOM)

Your design right now is just that, a ‘design’. You are only doing half your job if you are not providing a viable and pragmatic plan for implementation. No. A certificate that simply can be purchased isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. The test will test you have understand the course material and can apply it in a practical situation.

You will find the test is ‘satisfyingly difficult’, meaning its difficult enough that you need to actually know the materials but it isn’t tricky or difficult just for the sake of being difficult. That said, we have made the test(s) challenging and the questions relate to our proprietary methodology, so you shouldn’t expect to be able to pass the test just because you have taken other paid business transformation courses in the past. This training is different and the test(s) will reflect those differences.

Yes, you can retake the test, but you must wait at least 7-days to re-register. We recommend taking additional time to prepare, to maximize your chances of success.

Strictly speaking, no. This is a Certificate Program, not a Certification program. As a certificate programme, on successful completion of the course, acquiring the knowledge and passing the test at the end, you will obtain your certificate, indicating your knowledge in the content (Business transformation using the HOBA® method). For this reason, this course is open to newcomers and experienced people alike. The long term plan for this course is to be offered as a Certification program.

There are industry best practices to follow to become a certification program. This includes working with psychometricians to develop the test and test questions.

The overall process to certification is – experience, take course, read the book or guide, 1-2 years after the course gaining practical experience, then take the test.

The key to a solid certification process is the testing/certification process is ‘legally defensible’, that the individual being certified is competent. In order to do that, industry best practices must be followed (not just some of them), it was proper beta tested, and is statistically valid.

There are a lot of courses out there that claim to be ‘certification’ but don’t follow industry best practices, only do some but not all, or just cater for ‘Test Takers’ to take the test without having any knowledge of the content, reading any material, book or guide or undergone any training.

Test Providers are finding ways around this by requiring Test Takers to become ‘members’, as a quasi ‘interest in the professionalism of the industry’.

We are not interested in fake certification. We are interesting in proper certification and will look to implement a proper certification process by industry best practices testing process as part of a longer term strategy due to the high costs involved.

We would be however interested to hear from any potential partners or sponsors that would be interested in pre-purchasing a minimum number of participants to undergo training (and therefore certification) or sponsoring the development of the certification programme to get their consultants certified.

No. A certificate that simply can be purchased isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. The test will test you have understand the course material and can apply it in a practical situation.

You will find the test is ‘satisfyingly difficult’, meaning its difficult enough that you need to actually know the materials but it isn’t tricky or difficult just for the sake of being difficult. That said, we have made the test(s) challenging and the questions relate to our proprietary methodology, so you shouldn’t expect to be able to pass the test just because you have taken other paid business transformation courses in the past. This training is different and the test(s) will reflect those differences.

Yes, you can retake the test, but you must wait at least 7-days to re-register. We recommend taking additional time to prepare, to maximize your chances of success.

  • There will be a 50 question online test (either online proctored or in a testing centre), 90 mins. For organisations (that want to be certified partners):

  • All partners must complete the training and certification test and pay the annual licence fee. That annual licence fee will depend on the number of certified partners in the practice, e.g. Bronze minimum – 1, Silver minimum – 3, and Gold minimum – 5 respectively.
  • All partners will be listed on their own partner page. All visitors wanting to get a Certified partner to help them with their transformation can go online, search the partner directory and contact them directly, or when we get inquiries directly, we will send referrals to the nearest or best suited partner.
  • There will be addition training for certified partners included as part of their licence fee – e.g. how to sell, implement and support HOBA plus sales and support materials so you can quickly and easily start offering paid training, implementation and support services for your clients
